Oriel Lodge is an attractive Edwardian detached house, built in the Arts-and-Crafts style in 1907, and set in a tree-lined residential area close to the Westgate Gardens. There are local shops, pubs and restaurants on St Dunstans Street nearby, and the city centre starts at the Westgate, five minutes walk away. Train and bus stations are all within walking distance, together with the many attractions of Canterbury, and walks directly into the surrounding countryside. By car, Oriel Lodge is easily reached from the main road system, with its own car park and a parking space for each apartment.

Canterbury itself is a compact, historic and lively city, a World Heritage site with its beautiful Cathedral and ancient buildings dating back to Roman times. It has two universities, colleges, a popular theatre, shops and cultural activities of many kinds, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all set among medieval streets and pretty gardens, with the countryside never far away. With a central position in East Kent, it combines interest, convenience and relaxation, making an excellent base for holiday, short break, business and re-location rentals.

Oriel Lodge Holiday Apartments are self-contained holiday homes within a quiet and well-kept house, offering an excellent alternative to holiday cottages for smaller numbers of people. Self catering provides the freedom and independence for a relaxing stay, together with the security and care of resident owners, who are usually available to welcome you and to help if needed.

There are three holiday flats, all on the first (upstairs) floor, retaining the welcoming and restful period style, with high quality furnishings and fittings, and clean, up-to-date facilities. They vary a little in the arrangement of rooms and overall size, each one having a comfortable bedroom, en-suite shower room, sitting area, dining area and kitchenette. They are furnished and decorated in keeping with the Arts-and-Crafts style of unfussy, solid comfort, and cleaned and maintained to a high standard.

The house is centrally heated, with individually controlled radiators in every room. Air circulation fans are provided for cooling in hot weather. Bed-linen and towels are supplied and changed weekly, together with weekly cleaning of the apartments.

The bedrooms have good quality beds and bedding, with reading lamps and radio/alarm clock, dressing table with mirror and hair drier, and TV with digital tuner and DVD player. Shower rooms have an efficient plumbed-in shower, WC, washbasin, shaver point and towels. In the kitchenette and dining area there is a small fridge, cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, tea towels and cloths, table and chairs. The sitting area has a settee or easy chairs, reading lamp, TV and radio/stereo player. A broadband internet connection is wired to each apartment, and wi-fi is also installed.

Other facilities include a laundry room, on the same floor, with a washing machine, tumble drier, and iron and board. A payphone in the entrance hall is available for outgoing telephone calls. The garden at the front of the house has permanent seating, and enjoys the sunshine in the afternoon and evening. A car parking space is provided for each apartment,

All facilities are included in the prices quoted.

The apartments are totally non-smoking, and are not suitable for pets. Children are welcome from six years and older.

Canterbury is the ideal base for visiting South-East England. It is the hub of East Kent’s roads and railways, with good connections by car, bus or train in all directions.

The county of Kent is known as the Garden of England, a charming landscape of woods and farms, orchards and oast houses, castles and gardens, surrounded on three sides by the coast, with cliff walks and beaches, and a selection of seaside resorts.

Within ¼ - ¾ hour’s drive lies all the Kent coast, including Whitstable (oysters), Broadstairs (Charles Dickens), Dover (White Cliffs), Rochester (Cathedral, more Dickens), Leeds Castle, Dover, Deal and Walmer Castles, Goodnestone Gardens, and many other attractions ranging from wartime museums to wild animal parks.

Within 1 – 1 ½ hours’ drive are the historic towns of Rye, Battle and Hastings, Tunbridge Wells, famous houses such as Chartwell (Winston Churchill) and Hever Castle (Anne Boleyn), Sissinghurst Gardens, London (most easily by train or by coach), and France (by ferry, Channel Tunnel, or Eurostar from Ashford).
