Oriel
Lodge is an attractive Edwardian detached house,
built in the Arts-and-Crafts style in 1907, and set in a tree-lined
residential area close to the Westgate Gardens. There are local shops,
pubs and restaurants on St Dunstans Street nearby, and the city centre
starts at the Westgate, five minutes walk away. Train and bus stations
are all within walking distance, together with the many attractions
of Canterbury, and walks directly into the surrounding countryside.
By car, Oriel Lodge is easily reached from the main road system, with
its own car park and a parking space for each apartment.
Canterbury
itself is a compact, historic and lively city, a World Heritage
site with its beautiful Cathedral and ancient buildings dating back
to Roman times. It has two universities, colleges, a popular theatre,
shops and cultural activities of many kinds, cafes, pubs and restaurants,
all set among medieval streets and pretty gardens, with the countryside
never far away. With a central position in East Kent, it combines
interest, convenience and relaxation, making an excellent base for
holiday, short break, business and re-location rentals.

PLACES
TO VISIT
Canterbury
is the ideal base for visiting South-East England. It is the hub
of East Kent’s roads and railways, with good connections by
car, bus or train in all directions.
The
county of Kent is known as the Garden of England, a charming
landscape of woods and farms, orchards and oast houses, castles
and gardens, surrounded on three sides by the coast, with cliff
walks and beaches, and a selection of seaside resorts.
Within
¼ - ¾ hour’s drive lies all the Kent
coast, including Whitstable (oysters), Broadstairs (Charles Dickens),
Dover (White Cliffs), Rochester (Cathedral, more Dickens), Leeds
Castle, Dover, Deal and Walmer Castles, Goodnestone Gardens, and
many other attractions ranging from wartime museums to wild animal
parks.
Within
1 – 1 ½ hours’ drive are the
historic towns of Rye, Battle and Hastings, Tunbridge Wells, famous
houses such as Chartwell (Winston Churchill) and Hever Castle (Anne
Boleyn), Sissinghurst Gardens, London (most easily by train or by
coach), and France (by ferry, Channel Tunnel, or Eurostar from Ashford).
